She compared plates. Variables in the Magellanic Clouds.
Henrietta Leavitt worked the Harvard plates. In 1912 she reported that brighter Cepheids in the Small Magellanic Cloud had longer periods. Distance, later, would hang from that remaining. She was a computer. The word then meant a person.
The field was photographic. The relation was not.
